Overview
Best Dishes is designed to help you discover top‑rated dishes nearby or worldwide while respecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
Information We Collect
- Location (optional): If you grant permission, we use your device location to show dishes near you. You can disable location in iOS Settings and still browse worldwide. Location is used for app functionality only and is not sent to our analytics provider.
- User Content: If you submit reviews or photos, that content is stored in iCloud (CloudKit) and visible to other app users.
- Account: Sign in with Apple provides a user identifier to associate your reviews with your account.
Anonymous Analytics
With your permission (on by default), we collect anonymous usage and performance data to understand how the app is used and to improve reliability. This data is not linked to your Apple ID, email, or name.
What we may collect:
- Which screens or features you use (e.g., home, search, dish detail, settings)
- Session length and app opens
- Performance timings (e.g., how long the home feed takes to load)
- Aggregated crash or hang counts from Apple’s MetricKit (when available on your device)
- App version, iOS version, and a generic device type (e.g., iPhone)
- A random identifier stored on your device (not tied to Sign in with Apple)
What we do not collect in analytics: your name, email, Apple ID, review text, restaurant names, search queries, photos, precise GPS coordinates, or advertising identifiers (IDFA).
Who receives it: Events are sent over HTTPS to PostHog Cloud (hosted in the United States, e.g. us.i.posthog.com) for product analytics only—not for ads or cross‑app tracking.
Retention: PostHog retains event data according to its service terms (typically on the order of months on the free tier). We do not use analytics data to identify you personally.
Your control: In the app, go to Settings → Privacy & Analytics and turn off Share anonymous analytics at any time. When off, we stop sending new analytics events.
Account deletion: If you delete your account in the app, we rotate the anonymous analytics identifier on your device so it is not associated with a new session under the same install ID.
How We Use Information
- Provide core functionality (e.g., location‑based results).
- Improve performance and reliability (including anonymous analytics).
- Support customer service and troubleshooting.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share personal data with third‑party advertisers. User content is stored in Apple’s iCloud (CloudKit) and is visible within the app.
Anonymous analytics data is shared with PostHog solely to help us improve the app. We do not use analytics for cross‑app tracking or targeted advertising.
Your Choices
- You can disable location access at any time in iOS Settings.
- You can turn off anonymous analytics in the app under Settings → Privacy & Analytics.
- You can browse without an account; posting requires Sign in with Apple.
- You can delete your reviews in‑app.
Moderation and Safety
- We review reports and may hide or remove content that violates our Terms.
- We may block abusive users or restrict posting for policy violations.
- Moderation actions are logged in CloudKit for auditing.
